Molded Pulp
Molded pulp is an environmentally friendly replacement for EPS in many applications. If the product weight is under 20 pounds, Molded Pulp might be a potential replacement for EPS. This packaging product has limitations due to the molded equipment, and typically, requires large volumes to justify the use in a particular application. A typical molded pulp mold can cost between $15,000 and $100,000. Again, this depends on the volume, size and details of the part. The draft angles on most parts are around 7% as compared to EPS that would be 1% to 3% depending on the depth of the cavity. This may affect the design if replacing molded EPS.
